I'm Sonja. I've worked with people in a range of different settings for over 25 years. I am a qualified therapist and offer a wide variety of therapies for both adults and children. With over 6000 hours of therapy experience I offer both one-to-one and group services. In addition to having a private practice based in Manchester I have over 15 years’ experience in a variety of educational settings, working with children and young adults who have complex emotional needs. I can help you challenge behaviours and negative thought patterns, and provide guidance in developing strategies to implement in support of your personal growth.

Therapy works and makes a genuine difference to lives, it’s something I’m completely dedicated to. I’m thoroughly inspired by the individuals, couples, families and groups I’m privileged to work with.
Many different life experiences have brought me to where I should be, which is right here, offering support, reflection, direction and change to whoever needs me.
Feedback from clients give me an honest insight into how I am received when offering therapy, which is genuine, sensitively challenging, passionate, empathic and supportive.
The professional road I have taken has been exciting, yet equally as challenging. As a therapist it’s so important to work through your own ‘stuff’ to ensure you are mentally and physically in the best place to work with clients safely and effectively. In addition to training as a therapist, I have let my clients naturally take me towards training which helps and makes a difference. I offer supervision to other therapists, I teach counselling, I offer an amazing therapy called Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR). Ultimately EMDR is developed to help with trauma yet also has a positive impact on working with self-confidence, self-esteem and anxiety issues. I also practice a solution focused technique. Sometimes, clients are seeking the tools to help them, help themselves (or their loved ones). All of the above complement each other, I talk about each area in more detail in the different sections of my website.
As mentioned briefly above I have lots of experience working in education settings. I offer therapy to students, staff both individually and in groups. I offer tailor made training packages to suit the differing needs. This may be support with thoughts of suicide, self-harm, anxiety, low mood, managing emotions, issues around body image and food. I support staff when dealing with a difficult situation at work and offer mediation, if necessary.
Have a browse and decide if you think your workplace, you, or a loved one would benefit from working with me. Hopefully you will find this site easy to navigate, and support you to make a decision of what you need and what type of work is right for you. Most importantly if I’m the right therapist for you. I offer a free 20 minute phone consultation.
